Regular Nail Polish
Regular nail polish can cost between $1-$10 for the polish itself, with self painting that equals to the total cost. The prices vary based on the brand of the nail polish. If getting a regular nail polish manicure at a salon the prices can vary between $15-$25 depending on where someone is getting them done. The polish itself isn't as damaging as the remover, when removing the polish once it begins to chip. The manicure can last up to 10 days without chipping. The finish can be either shimmery, shiny, or matte, depending on what top coat is used over the polish.
Gel Manicure
A gel manicure is thicker and lasts longer than regular nail polish. Getting a gel manicure can cost between $20-$35 depending on what salon you go to. The process of a gel manicure is that the manicurist files and shapes the nail, roughens the surface, applies the polish which is cured under a UV light for a minute or two, and is followed by 2 more coats. After it dries, the manicurist applies a coat of clear polish to prevent the gel polish from smudging, and is cured under a UV light. The manicure lasts between 2-4 weeks, before chipping and peeling starts. The nail does become more damaged than when using regular polish, since the polish is thicker and the reaction between the polish and the nail makes the polish remain on the nail surface for longer. There are two forms of removal. You can either remove the manicure by using acetone done by a manicurist or when the gel starts to peel, use steam and water to peel it off, (for example when taking a shower.)
Shellac Manicure
Shellac Manicure is basically gel, but differs minimally. The difference between gel and Shellac is that Shellac is a specific brand of gel polish. Shellac doesn't require roughing up the nails surface, and when painted doesn't need to be dried after it has been cured for the last time under the UV light, while gel requires to wait a few minutes to dry after it has been cured under the UV light for the last time. Shellac costs approximately the same price as the gel, between $20-$40. It lasts as long as gel and has about the same damaging effects as gel, and is removed the same way as gel.
