All over the internet there has been the trend of holographic and chrome nails. I will be going over what each is, how it is done, and what the effects or differences of each are for those confused people out there.
Starting out with Holographic or Holo nails. These nails are basically formed when you have a gel manicure and on top of it is a holographic powder that makes the nails have that sort of shine or effect to them. This is done when you get gel nails and then on top of the gel, a clear gel topcoat that the holographic powder will stick to is applied onto the nails. Then a rubber tipped tool is used and dipped into the powder, and is applied on top of the clear gel. And after, you have to seal the deal with applying a top coat (remember not to forget the edges.) And that is about it when it comes to creating or knowing the process of forming Holo nails.
Next there are chrome nails. Chrome nails have a metallic sort of mirror effect to them. This is another powder nail type. So how this works is after the applied layers of gel polish are cured, then they are coated with the non-wipe top coat and are again cured under a UV light. So after the nail is cured, you would take the chrome pigment and apply it using a rubber tip to the nails and make sure that after the nail is cured to not wipe off any of the top coat, and apply the powder directly to the nail. After applying top coat to seal it all, cure and let the nail dry and the nail will then be complete.
So I'm sure you're reading this and saying, "Isn't that the same exact thing?" Well I can tell you right now you're right....but not completely. So, the process is in fact the same because with both manicures you start with gel and then add the non-wiping top coat that the pigment or powder can stick to, and then cure it with a top coat over the powder once finished. So pretty similar, but the chrome powders and the holo or holographic powders are different, so that is pretty much the only difference I noticed. But, as you can tell the outcomes are very much different, since with once you get a metallic, mirror-like effect and with the other you get a shimmery, sort of glow effect of glitter. But in general, both looks are very trendy and admired.
