Mascara...it has been used as long as I can remember. There are so many brands at this point, that all can’t be named. Higher end brands of mascara include Benefit, Nars, Tarte, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Lancome, and many others. Drugstore brands include Maybeline, Cover Girl, Revlon, Elf, and more. There are many forms as well like water-proof mascaras. Although, the water proof mascaras are proven to dry out quicker, they are water proof , which can be helpful in many situations. The mascara wand shapes can be thin, thick, curved, spherical, micro, or shape. Each of these have their pros and cons like with the curved mascara, you can skip an extra step of your routine of using an eye lash curler, since the wand of the mascara curves the lashes after applying. Although the con is that it is prone to more clumping, but with proper application, can get the job done well. A good hack when your mascara dries out, (don’t throw it away,) by putting your mascara in a cup with hot water for around 10 to 15 minutes would revive it to its liquid state. Another alternative is to add a few drops of contact lens solution to the mascara, and pump the wand. This should liquefy the product, and make it useable again. If you have a problem with your lashes not curling, when using an eye lash curler, try applying the mascara when holding the eye lash curler on the lashes, this will help keep them curled for longer. If your mascara dries out, and is in fact eligible to be thrown away, you should save the wand and clean it for when you apply mascara and your lashes clump, it helps to use the old mascara wand better since the bristles don’t have product on them, to separate the lashes, for a better look. When applying your mascara, to create a fuller look, it helps to layer 2 coats, but the key is to wait for the mascara to dry between the two coats, this creates the first coat as a primer, and promotes less clumping. When applying, don’t pump the wand in the mascara bottle more than once, since this creates air bubbles and lets more air in the mascara, which causes it to dry out quicker. To create a thicker lash look, dust your lashes with translucent powder. Lastly, it is important to clean your mascara wand once in a while, since after each time you use your mascara, there is always some product left on the bristles, and then after some time, many layers of residue will form, so it is good to take the wand out of the bottle, cover the bottle with a paper towel tightly, to keep from air coming in. Then take a tissue and wipe down the product adding a bit of pressure, until the bristles of the wand are clean. This will reduce the bacteria that can easily settle on the brush and reduce clumping. An average time mascara should be thrown after is 3 to 4 months.
