I'm sure everyone hears it, "Get your sleep!", "You need at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night!", "You can't function after 4 hours of sleep!", and many more. Which truth be said, is true. Sleep is so vital to function every day just as much as the need to drink water and eat every day, you cannot bypass it. But the effects of sleep deficiency can link to many bad side effects and not have a good impact on a person's overall well-being.
To start out with, each person does in fact need 7-10 hours of sleep, as cliche as it sounds. During when a person sleeps, the body heals damaged cells, boosts the immune system, recovers from the day, and at the same time recharges the heart and cardiovascular system for the following day.
What's important to remember is that every person has a certain sleep cycle, usually because of either school or work or any other recurrent activity. So like for example someone can go to work everyday at 7 so they have the habit to wake up at 6:30 or even 6:00 and then they probably go to sleep at like 10 or 11 since they wake up earlier. This causes the body to prepare insulin for whenever the person would usually eat. Let's say this person eats breakfast every day at 6:45 and it's usually a banana and a granola bar followed by coffee. Then they will most likely eat similar portions at similar times of the rest of the day, everyday. This causes the metabolism to increase since the body knows when food enters the body and can easily translate it into energy. But, if someone decides to not go to sleep at 10 or 11 and goes to sleep at 1 or 2 and then oversleeps the alarm at 6, since naturally the altered amount of sleep causes the body to crave more rest. Then, let's say this person forgets to eat breakfast because they are running late. Then, not only is their body tired of not getting enough rest, but stomach is grumbling due to no food, which leads to energy deficiency. This disrupts the body's metabolism and therefore turns whatever food this person eats after into "storage" or fat. Then this person ends up feeling sluggish throughout the day and isn't as productive as they would normally be, including more mistakes made throughout work.
So, it's best to not slack off at work and not pull all-nighters because it's very harsh for the body and has negative side effects for all of the organs to regenerate and for the body to just rest in general. We all need it so remember, get your sleep!
